The circle of life

Jellyfish have a specific, 2-phases life cycle. During one phase, they are attached to a hard surface (in this phase they are called polyps). The polyps then go into the second, free swimming phase where the so-called ephyrae (immature jellyfish) are released and swim away.

Today, the researchers from NTNU, Norway, were excited to observe over 100 polyps right outside our biological station! We caught the release of ephyrae which is presented on the video and figures below.
