Samplings in Germany are continuing
4. 4. 2018
Today we continued with the biweekly samplings in Germany which started in 2004 and are ongoing regularly. For samplings conducted by GEOMAR, Kiel, we use devices used to collect variety of samples for ecological studies on jellyfish communities (see pictures below). Besides catching jellyfish we are sampling for water as well to determine its physical, biological and chemical parameters. Our today’s catch: firejelly. Will we be able to use this species for developing GoJelly products? Our first goal is to collect jellyfish mucus in the lab, which is shown in the pictures. The mucus will be used to produce biofilters which will trap microplastics and nanoplastic particles so that the release of these particles from waste water treatment plants into the ocean will be decreased.
