Jellyfish mucus collection in Israel

Harvesting mucus from the scyphozoan, Rhopilema nomadica, on board the R.V. Mediterranean Explorer, during a research cruise with students of the University of Haifa.

The scyphozoan, Rhopilema nomadica, releases abundant mucus, which we collect by holding the medusas over a funnel. The medusas can be more than 50 cm in diameter and weigh more than 12 kg. This specimen was caught in June 2020 near Mikhmoret, Israel.
