In Slovenia jellyfish samplings have finally started!
14. 3. 2018
In the Gulf of Trieste researchers from NIB have caught first jellyfish of the season – moon jellyfish (Aurelia aurita s.l.) and barrel jellyfish (Rhizostoma pulmo). The biochemical and chemical composition of these jellyfish and their corresponding mucus will be analyzed and pre-processed to be used in wide array of applications – as fertilizer, for cosmetics and even for the development of prototype microplastic filter – a biofilter based on jellyfish mucus, which will adsorb microplastic particles! In this way we will use one source of pollution (jellyfish) to combat/to reduce another type of pollution – microplastics
We are very excited about the opportunities for all the innovative products that we will develop within the GoJelly project!
