Another successful sampling in Norway!

27. 6. 2018

Colleagues from NTNU had another sampling in Slettvik, Hopavågen (Trondheim Fjord). They caught a giant male Cyanea capillata of 29 cm in diameter and 2.6 kg in size along with some mature Aurelia aurita with diameter of up to 20 cm. Besides recording their size, they took subsamples of their gonads for sex identification.

Finally, it was the first time they found the beautiful deep sea siphonophore Physophora hydrostatica (4 individuals) in Hopavågen at 2 meters depth, possibly brought in by currents and upwelling.

Who knows what will they find on the next sampling, so stay tuned!
