AAA jelly-ish fun in Vienna!

Have you ever heard about glycoproteins? They are major organic constituents of jellyfish mucus, which form a gel-like biomaterial. One task within GoJelly is also to decipher mucus chemical structure in order to better understand their sticky properties.
Our colleague Katja Klun, from the National Institute of Biology (NIB), is currently on a short-term visit at the University of Vienna, Division of Bio-Oceanography to perform amino acid analysis (AAA) of jellyfish mucus. The results will give us an insight into mucus amino acid compostion as well as the degree of mucus degradation during experimetns for mucus stability.
