GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF THE ORGANIZATION
CRM, based in Kiel, Northern Germany, was founded in 1994 by an interdisciplinary team of biologists, engineers, hydrogeologists and chemists. CRM, founded 1994, provides consulting, studies, ecological impact assessments, planning, research and development, e.g. integrated aquaculture of indigenous seaweed and mussels. CRM performs R&D on marine natural substances (cosmetic, food, biotech), comprising expertise of marine ecology as well as bioinformatics. CRM’s sister company oceanBASIS GmbH (www.oceanbasis.de) was founded in 2001 in order to market products from living marine resources and Marine Biotechnology, e.g. offering its own line of certified natural marine cosmetics “Oceanwell” and bioactive extracts for the cosmetic industry; R&D on tissue engineering.

COMPETENCES AND INVOLVEMENT in GoJelly
There is special know-how and experience with the extraction of collagen from jellyfish (JF) and development of medical (bioscaffold for cartilage repair and wound gel) as well as development and marketing of skin care products (native collagen as an active ingredient for anti-aging cosmetics). CRM’s activities are based upon these first experiences, showing that collagen and other biomolecules from marine invertebrates are an underestimated and sustainable raw material for the cosmetics, food and peptide industry as well as for medical products. Therefore, the objectives of the project “GoJelly” is perfectly in accordance with the entrepreneurial orientation taking into account the additional market pull by these sectors that can be generated by a synergistic and cascade utilisation of jellyfish biomass.

The role of CRM in GoJelly is designing, producing and marketing of new products from JF. Corresponding objectives are 1. to make the use of JF more popular, 2. back the value chain of sea-cleaning.
